Spain under +34 uses 9-digit fixed-length national numbers with the area-code block as the first two or three digits. Spanish consumers favour local numbers strongly — particularly 91 Madrid and 93 Barcelona, which carry the most weight for business credibility nationwide.

Geographic prefixes: 91 Madrid, 93 Barcelona, 94 Bilbao/Basque Country, 95 Andalusia (Seville, Málaga), 96 Valencia/Murcia, 97 Aragón/Catalonia, 98 Galicia/Asturias. Mobile numbers start with 6 or 7. Toll-free uses 800 or 900. The 902 shared-cost range was historically used for service lines but is being phased out — 900 Freephone is replacing it as the preferred consumer-service prefix.

Regulations

The CNMC (Comisión Nacional de los Mercados y la Competencia) regulates Spanish telecommunications. Geographic numbers require Spanish-business documentation (CIF/NIF) and identity verification; activation typically takes 2–4 business days. Mobile and 900 toll-free numbers have a faster path with lighter documentation requirements.

Common use cases

Spanish numbers are essential for Iberian-market e-commerce, tourism and hospitality support lines (especially in coastal regions where 95 and 96 read as local), and B2B SaaS targeting Spanish enterprise. 900 Freephone has become the de facto standard for any post-sale customer service — Spanish consumers expect the brand, not the caller, to pay.
